Odawara Castle Projection Mapping

Asia`s Largest International Projection Mapping Contest 9/20-9-23

“1 Minute Projection Mapping” was started in 2012 and is now the longest running International Projection Mapping event in Asia. The famous Odawara Castle will be the canvas for this years competition. Using the castle for the international competition has created enormous interest from abroad. The deadline for selection was July 31st. There were 177 entries from over 43 countries, and example of the high interest in this event.

Odawara Castle was the center of power of the Kanto area for a century as the Hojo Clan ruled for 5 generations. The castle was famed for it`s defensive strength and design. The “Impregnable Castle” repelled attacks from some of Japan`s most famous samurai warriors like Uesugi Kenshin and Takeda Shingen. This famous castle will act as the screen for the projection mapping project. This is a unique opportunity to see creators from around the world create a once in a lifetime projection mapping experience. In addition to the projection mapping events there will be other artists performing. Nakamura Shido, a famed kabuki actor, will be the opening performance for the first day, 9/20. On November 23 the popular and innovative high tech dance unit “EL SQUAD” will perform on the special stage. There are planned performances by a Japanese Taiko drum group on the the 21st and 23rd as well. This is a world class event worthy of coverage and attention. Fans and visitors from around the world are invited and we hope this event will be shared and enjoyed all over the world.

This is one of the longest running projection mapping competitions in the world. This year`s event differs from many of the other events around the world. The title of this year`s competition is “Dream夢” and will be a collection of 1 minute creations by participating teams. The themes for the competitions change every time and give the creators the ability and motivation to create works that are special, unique, and showcase their creativity.

Nakamura Shido, El Squad, and more!

On the first day of the competition 9/20, the famed kabuki actor Nakamura Shido will take the stage with Odawara Castle in the background. For this one day there will be a rare performance. It will be exciting to see what the creative energy and synergy between the location of Odawara Castle, the traditional arts of Nakamura Shido, and the modern creativity of projection mapping will be on show. A truly unique and special event to see.

On 9/22 (Sunday) the imaginative performers “EL SQUAD” will showcase their light dance art. EL SQUAD has collaborated with Sony, Skull Candy, and more with their wireless light suits and street dance moves. The group burst into popularity with 5 million YouTube views in two months and now over 50 million views worldwide! With the experience and pride of hosting shows in more than 30 locations around the world, EL SQUAD continues to receive high praise for their innovation and art from around the world.
